Our group is trying to help alleviate these problems through our work, and we are anxious to expand our scope to other schools in the region. The social problems in the area create high drop-out rates and high illiteracy rates which in turn inhibit social and economic development. We are determined to become a part of the solution to these problems. We want to help make Morocco literate! AMIS DES ECOLES unites parents, children, teachers and local government to provide a proper learning environment for students and teachers alike. We believe that local communities can and must be empowered to find solutions to their problems and we are there to help them do that. We strive for friendly, pleasant classroom environments that supports the needs of the local community. Of particular importance to the rural areas we deal with is the education of girls, often seen as a low priority in these areas. Research shows that educated girls send their children to school, have lower birth rates and child mortality, and promote political stability and combat poverty.
